This article highlights some of the key advances in the hazard and risk assessment of engineered nanomaterials, which have tremendous potential to produce beneficial technological impact in numerous sectors in society but safety assessment is of paramount importance.

Socorro Vázquez-Campos, scientist at LEITAT, is one of its authors. Bengt Fadeel, from  the Karolinska Institutet, as main author, wrote the article with the support of Lucian Farcal (Douglas Connect GmbH), Barry Hardy (Douglas Connect GmbH), Danail Hristozov (University of Venice Ca Foscari), Antonio Marcomini (University of Venice Ca Foscari), Iseult Lynch (University of Birmingham), Eugenia Valsami-Jones (University of Birmingham), Harri Alenius (Karolinska Institutet & University of Helsinki) and Kai Savolainen (Finnish Institute of Occupational Health).
